The Game
The V for Victory series set a new standard for computer wargames when the first chapter was released in 1991. It was, and remains, one of the most complete, accurate, and realistic simulation of large scale WWII ground combat ever produced. Yet V for Victory is logically organized and relatively easy to grasp. Each chapter sports a great AI, interface, with plenty of units and historical variants. Even today the turn-based V for Victory series should be a part of every wargamer's collection.
The collection includes the following scenarios:
Utah Beach
Utah Beach simulates the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II. You can play the part of the Allied commander, whose job it is to take strategic territory and eliminate all German resistance. If you are very successful, you will have shortened the war and hastened the fall of the Nazi empire. If you are not, you will have prolonged the war and indirectly caused the deaths of thousands of brave soldiers. Alternatively, you can play the German commander, whose job is to defend Cherbourg and push the Americans back into the sea. While V for Victory appears to be easy to play, it's actually wonderfully complex and detailed, as variables such as terrain, fatigue, weather, support, and time-of-day are taken into account.
Velikiye Luki
Velikiye Luki takes the series East to the Russian Front of WWII. As the German commander, you must rescue your encircled forces that are holding out at the ancient fortress town of Velikiye Luki, while protecting the Vitebsk - Leningrad railroad, vital to the supply of Army Group North. Or, as the Russian commander, you must take Velikiye Luki and advance to the railroad, to cut off and destroy the Fascist invaders.
Market Garden
Market Garden takes the series to southern Holland. As the British commander, you must take and hold bridges across three major rivers, secure a foothold across the Rhine, and open a corridor for the invasion of Germany. As the German commander, you must delay the British advance, destroy the airborne divisions, and prevent the British army from reaching German territory.
Gold-Juno-Sword
Gold-Juno-Sword takes the series back to the Normandy beaches. As the Commonwealth commander, you must take and hold a beachhead large enough to secure a foothold in Europe, and open a second front against Germany. As the German commander, you must destroy the Commonwealth divisions, and force them to withdraw from the continent.
